sweet friends

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • Pinchsalt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold, cut in chunks
  • 2 eggs separated, (yolks for the pastry, whites for the glaze)
  • 3 tablespoons ice water, plus more if needed

Caramel Apples:

  • 1 cup sugar, plus 1/4 cup for the top
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 vanilla bean, splitand scraped
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 8 apples (recommended: Granny Smith and Gala)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cinnamonstick, freshly grated
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

Directions:

  • invite friends over for some sweets
  • over wine turn off all mobile telephones… and any means of technological social media
  • music streaming through the house adds to the sweetness
  • with pie baking warmly in the oven and sweet scents and music through~out the house
  • when the door bell rings and friends arrive…
  • begin an evening or afternoon of time together… with absolutely no regard for the time… lose yourselves in laughter, sweet treats, delicious drinks and love…

    Sounds delicious and wonderful! I love moments like this: cooking for people, spending time with friends in a summer garden, enjoying the food and a good old chat. Always makes me happy…
